These are the main aims of the Galician Language Observatory:

• Obtaining first-hand knowledge on the situation of Galician language in the society.
• Obtaining quantitative and qualitative information on the presence of Galician in the previously mentioned domains.
• Enabling comparisons of linguistic uses in different domains of the society.
• Enabling permanent monitoring of the General Plan for the Normalization of Galician Language.
• Using it as a starting point for the observation and assessment of the social use of Galician.
• Enabling, throughout consecutive observations in the future, the measuring and the assessment of the impact of actions with regard to Galician language.
• Making available, for the first time ever, in-depth and rigorous information on the linguistic reality in Galicia.
• Enabling to guide and focus measures in favour of the language in the most necessary domains and where a greater demand can be stated.
